Pen Pal Project, Success in Sark! With:Okehampton Primary School In February 2016, I created a safe project to connect children with pen pals. I had a pen pal when I was a kid and I remember the joy in simply receiving a letter in the post. Today it is far quicker, cheaper and convenient to communicate by e-mail. The aim of the project: * Make New Friends * Develop literacy skills * Increase motivation for language and communication * Become informed Global Citizens * Learn about new places and cultures. A group of children from Okehampton Primary School learned about the Channel Island of Sark. They wrote postcards to children at Sark School and introduced themselves. They wrote about their hobbies and what they enjoy doing. A few weeks later, they all received a reply from the children in Sark School. The children were so happy! When I asked them how it felt to receive a letter from a child in another school on a remote Island, they replied with " AMAZING!", "I'm astonished!" For safeguarding reasons I am unable to publish pictures of the children and their letters.
VOICE OFF Deaf Awareness Community Event: The Exeter Deaf Academy launched a new challenge called "Voice-Off" to raise awareness of how Deaf young people struggle to use or understand spoken language in the hearing world. The idea is simple. Switch off your voice and find alternative ways to communicate instead. That could be writing, drawing, acting or learning basic sign language. I firmly believe that Sign Language should be part of the national curriculum in schools.

Countryside Classroom With: Home Education A fantastic day at the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust, Bellever, Dartmoor National Park. The day started with a walk up through Bellever Forest onto Bellever Tor. We then stopped at a Bronze Age Round Hut and then onto a Bronze Age Tomb. The ponies were absolutely beautiful. After some lunch and some Circus Toys skills, we learned about bee's and made candles. We covered, History, Geography, outdoor learning, physical endurance, environmental and wildlife, social skills and had a whole lot of fun! :)
